Public Statement of the people who are part of ASEAN community
The Myanmar Army urged to stop suppressing mass movements to demand the restoration of administrative power of democratically elected party according to a democratic system
The Myanmar Army led by Senior General Min Aung Hlaing has seized the ruling power from the democratically elected NLD party through a military and it has prompted people all over Myanmar to demonstrate to show their opposition to such seizure of power by the Myanmar military. Statements have been issued by human rights, country members of the United Nations and ASEAN to show their opposition to a lack of respect of the election results which reflect the consensus of the people of Myanmar and the showing of gross hostility toward a democratic system of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
Over the past three weeks saw the uprisings of the people of Myanmar and how the coup makers in retaliation have exercised their power to suppress and disperse the demonstrations causing a number of injuries and deaths. The latest crackdowns took place on 20 February 2021 in Mandalay. Reportedly, security forces have raided the shipyard where workers were on strike and protesting against the seizure of power by the army. The police fired teargas and live ammunitions into the crowd caking two deaths instantly. One of them was shot in the head, another in the chest. The latter was a child under 18 years of age. A number of injured people have also been reported.
The Migrant Working Group (MWG), its members and the people in ASEAN community unreservedly condemn the use of force and weapon to disperse peaceful public assemblies and urge the Commander-in-Chief of Myanmar to stop using force and weapon against people participating in the peaceful assemblies. They are also urged to respect the Charter of the United Nations (1945), the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (1948), the UN Basic Principles on the Use of Force and Firearms by Law Enforcement Officials endorsed by the UN General Assembly. The Myanmar army must accept the election results and restore power of the civilian government immediately.
